Last week I stumbled across this awesome Garmin ad featuring Christophe Le Mevel.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Nipples of Doom

A few weeks ago I was coming back from a ride when a nipple connected to a spoke on my rear wheel exploded and pulled through almost sending me off the bike.

My first thought was that the massive power I was producing must have been too much for the wheels to handle. On remembering that I only produce about 230 watts, and some further investigation it became clearly apparent the issue was something else.

2012 World Tour Team Kits

The 2012 season has now officially commenced with the Santos Tour Down Under getting underway in Adelaide, Australia.

I thought it was time to take a quick look at the 2012 kits the top tier UCI World Tour Teams will be wearing this season.

Now I'm no style and fashion icon and my opinion on these matters counts for little. I don't know why some things appeal to me and others not so much. Anyhow, what follows (in no particular order) is a quick snapshot of all the kits and my comments on each of the 2012 offerings.

Astana Pro Team

The first of the 'if it aint broke, don't fix it' kits of 2012. Apart from what appears to be a lightening of the powder blue on the kit, as far as I can tell there are no distinguishable changes.

RadioShack Nissan Trek 2012 Madone 6.9 SSL

As mentioned in earlier posts; given my one-eyed love for Specialized I feel I should naturally dislike their biggest North American competitor, Trek.

I liken this feeling to being something akin to the rivalry that exists between Aussie motor racing supporters of Ford and Holden in the V8 Supercars. They are not exactly sure why they don't like the other brand, they've just grown up that way and accept it for what it is.

Finding its way to me in a Christmas goodie bag from the mother in law; I've just finished reading Robbie McEwen's autobiography; One Way Road.

Omega Pharma - Quickstep 2012

Here are the first pics of my two favourite riders back on my favourite bike. Omega-Pharma Quickstep back on Specialized for 2012. New kit looks pretty flash as well!

Belgian Rock Star; Boonen:

Fingers crossed Tommeke can get regain that winning edge and do some damage in the Spring classics now he is back aboard Specialized equipment.

Everybody's favourite Frenchy Chavanel:

I can't wait for proper racing to get underway; 2012 is shaping up to be an awesome year in pro cycling!

2012 Jayco Bay Cycling Classic

On Monday I braved 40 degree heat to make the long trek down the highway to Geelong to check out stage 2 of the 2012 Jayco Bay Cycling Classic.

Run over 4 stages/days, this event grows in popularity each year and is seen as a major tune up for the Tour Down Under and Australian Road Cycling Championships held in January of each year.

Rapha Festive 500

In an all too familiar occurrence of cycling related peer pressure and against better judgement; in the week leading up to Christmas I got sucked into taking part in the Rapha Festive 500 challenge.

I'm sure that you are well aware of the Rapha Festive 500 challenge, but in case you have been living under a rock; Rapha sets a challenge to pedal off the indulgences of the festive season by riding 500 kilometres between the 23rd and 31st of December.

McShiney and I ranking up the kilometres
For your efforts you receive the adulation of your peers (or maybe the relief of not being ridiculed by them), the satisfaction of knowing you completed something you set out to do and most importunely the badge from Rapha (above) in recognition of your accomplishment.
